First Impression
Okay at first I didn’t know what to think, they have this little shed where you should check in. We pulled up and no one was manning the shed but they had a little sign in the corner that said please check in with camp host. Ok so now we need to find this “Camp Host” great I thought, but then the first lot I came to they had a stop sign and a note that said check in with Camp Host here. Ok cool that was not so hard to find. The guy was friendly enough and welcomed us to Beaver Bay. He sent me on my way, I had to ask if he had a map so I knew where to go and the best way to take the trailer. With out hesitation he said let me get my trusty map. He showed me the best way to go, but did not have a paper map for me to take. So we pull up to the site and I am like umm… How the #@%& am I going to get this 21ft trailer in this spot. Even some times I doubt my skills, but I got the trailer in place. With not much room to spare. I even had two guys tell me that my parking job was damn impressive.
Observations/Experience
So first thing I realized is that I will not be able to use my awning at all, I am backed up to the trees and I have a tree on the front side that is only about 3-4ft from my trailer. And of course it was raining this weekend and I mean lots of ran, after a dry spell so everything stayed on the surface. But the site did have enough trees to provide some cover from the rain.
Because of all the rain the entire property was WET and I mean puddles, and with my luck the largest puddle on our lot was in front of the door. I was already as close to the road as possible and if I backed up anymore I would be parking over the fire pit and the puddle would still be in front of the door. So we just dealt with bringing in mud every time we went in the trailer. It would have been nice to know that my RV would barely fit in this spot.
During my set up of the RV one of the Camp Hosts drove by and I stopped him to see if their was any way to change sites, as I see a bunch of them are free. He cut me off and said “nope nope nope…… the computer does not let us, once you are booked that is your spot. have a nice day”. Then he drove off, don’t get me wrong I am sure he hears this a lot, but even he could see that I had a hard time just getting my RV to fit. Proof is in the overgrowth I ran over with my truck….
Now we are committed to making this site work we have no options at this point. So we level out the RV and some how the lot was relatively level did not take much to get her where she needed to be.
So we get everything set up and by this time it’s 9:30 and after our long 4 1/2 hour drive thanks to Tacoma traffic we are ready to go to bed.
The noise from other campers was obviously there but it was not excessive.
The next morning we made breakfast and sat outside to enjoy the little sun before the rain came back, and now we could see the camp site in the daylight. This a tent site for sure! It had two great spots for tents a picnic table and a fire pit. Because I used the parking spot for my RV I had to park the truck between two trees in a spot that I am sure they made just so they could call the lot RV capable. my RV was only 3 1/2-4 FT away from the fire pit, this made me a little nervous but I kept the fire small and we were able to enjoy a little fire after we got back from the Ape Caves.
Final Thoughts:
Will we visit beaver bay camp ground again? YES! Totally, just need to plan a little better and now that I understand the layout of the park better I can make a more informed decision about what lot to choose.
Check out this other post about the amenities around the park.
